Irish Poitín Sour
The Irish Poitín Sour is a delightful cocktail that highlights the unique characteristics of poitín. This cocktail is both refreshing and complex, making it a great way to enjoy this traditional Irish spirit.
Ingredients:
- 50 ml poitín (e.g., Micil Irish Poitín or Micil Heritage Poitín)
- 25 ml fresh lemon juice
- 15 ml simple syrup (1:1 ratio of sugar to water)
- 15 ml egg white (optional for a frothy texture)
- 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
- Lemon twist or cherry for garnish
Instructions:
- Prepare the Ingredients:
- If using an egg white, separate it from the yolk and measure 15 ml.
- Mix the Cocktail:
- In a cocktail shaker, combine the poitín, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white (if using).
- Dry shake (without ice) vigorously for about 15 seconds to create a frothy texture from the egg white.
- Add ice to the shaker and shake again until well-chilled.
- Serve:
- Strain the mixture into a chilled coupe or rocks glass.
- Add Bitters:
- Carefully add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top of the frothy layer.
