WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHISKY AND WHISKEY
The difference between whisky and whiskey is more than spelling. It refers to the origin and type of the spirits. For example, ‘whiskey’ refers to grain-derived spirits that were distilled in Ireland or the United States. ‘Whisky’ refers only to Scottish, Canadian, and Japanese grain spirits.
The reason for the distinction is related to the distillery process. American and Irish whiskey is traditionally distilled only twice whereas, whiskies from Japan, Canada, and Scotland are traditionally distilled three times. This is why you’ll never find ‘Japanese whiskey’ out in the market.
