Nagahama Distillery founded in 2016 is the smallest distillery in Japan, located on the side of Lake Biwa which is the largest lake in Japan and called Mother Lake. It is said to be very suitable for maturing whisky because amount of the lake s water moderates the surrounding climate. The whisky is made using only the finest malted barley, which is carefully selected and mashed to create a rich and complex flavour profile. It is then aged in top quality Sherry Hogshead casks additional aging process adds depth and complexity to the whisky, it brings dried fruits, maple syrup, raisins, sugared almonds and hints of vanilla and on the nose, before stewed fruits, red berries and oaky spices make themselves known on the palate. The finish holds for a long time, with more oak and spices being the stars of the show. With only a limited number of bottles available, making it a highly sought-after collectors item.
